In light of the recent increase in urban development in Ireland, vibration monitoring is becoming more and more of a necessity. Piling activities and heavy machinery movements conducted in close proximity to existing buildings can cause disturbance and give rise to structural or cosmetic damage due to the high levels of ground-borne vibration that are created.

AWN Consulting offers vibration monitoring services that consist of measuring and recording vibration through the installation of a fixed, tri-axial geophone. The unit stores the greatest peak particle velocity (ppv) measured in each axis over specified periods and at what time and frequency each occurred. The units are downloaded on a periodic basis and the results compared to published limit values to ensure that no perceptible discomfort is being experienced by adjacent residents and that no cosmetic or structural damage is being inflicted on nearby dwellings. The results are also presented in technical reports which provide a documented history of a project's vibration level emissions.
