Environmental Impact Assessment

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a process for anticipating the effects on the environment caused by a proposed development or project at a particular site. Where effects are unacceptable, design or other measures can be taken to avoid or reduce these to acceptable levels.

The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a document produced in the course of this process. The EIS must comply with the EIA requirements which derive from EC Directive 85/337/EEC (as amended by Directive 97/11/EC) on the assessment of the effect of certain public and private projects on the environment. EIA requirements are integrated in Ireland into the land-use planning consent system as well as several other infrastructural development consent systems.

AWN specialises in the preparation of EIS's for Information and Communications Technology (ICT), pharmaceutical and waste processing facilities. We have led multidisciplinary teams to deliver EIS's for more than 1 billion euro worth of pharmaceutical investment in Ireland over the last 10 years.
