All works to bridges and culverts on watercourses require approval from the Office of Public Works (OPW) in accordance with Section 50 of the Arterial Drainage Act 1945. Local Authorities seek Section 50 approval during the Planning Process if such works are being considered as part of development. The process requires the submission of structural drawings, hydraulic calculations and reports to the Office Public Works for their approval.
