AWN Consulting was appointed to prepare an application for a Waste Facility Permit for a proposed waste set down facility at Tom Roes Point, Baltray Road, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The application was subsequently submitted to Louth County Council on behalf of Drogheda Port.

The Waste Facility Permit application process involved a number of site visits and on-going consultation with the client and Louth County Council to obtain and clarify information required to complete the application form. This included:

  • applicant details, organisational structure; location and class of facility;
  • planning permission, licences and permits;
  • development and operational history of site;
  • details of any formal (or informal) Environmental, Quality or Workplace, Health and Safety Management Systems in place;
  • completion of an Environmental Report on possible emissions from the proposed Drogheda Port Waste Set Down Facility and assessment of the impacts;
  • sampling, monitoring, abatement and control systems in place to manage emissions and any impacts identified;
  • quantification and type of waste to be accepted onto the site, and;
  • details of the on-site security measures, including details of how unauthorised disposal of waste at the facility will be prevented.

Following submission of the initial permit application, consultation was held with Louth County Council, as clarification on certain issues was sought, and subsequent additional information was required.

AWN prepared a written submission in response to Louth County Council request for further information.

Drogheda Port was granted a Waste Facility Permit by Louth County Council in December 2011.
