AWN was commissioned by Seamus Monahan & Partners to review the quality of drinking water at the Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, Ballyman Road, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.

The Dun Laoghaire Golf Club is not serviced by mains water supply. As such, potable water servicing on-site facilities is supplied from groundwater wells located on-site. Water is pumped from each supply well to a custom designed water treatment plant where it is treated via a series of filters and dosing systems, prior to distribution throughout the site.

As part of the review completed by AWN, the following key tasks were completed:

• desktop review of existing monitoring results and other relevant data;
• site visit to review the water treatment process; and
• characterisation of drinking water quality through sampling and analysis of the raw and treated water supply.

Over two sampling rounds, samples from up to ten different monitoring locations were taken.

This included both the raw water supply (from the delivery pipeline) and treated water supply (from taps in the maintenance compound, golf academy, club house, starters hut and security hut).

In general, sample collection, storage and transport followed that outlined in the World Health Organisation (WHO) Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality.

Microbial, indicator and chemical parameters were analysed and the results compared with the relevant EU and Irish legislative limits. All parameters were analysed at an accredited laboratory. The only exception being Total and Free Chlorine, which due to its rapid degradation rate, was monitored at the time of sampling, using a customised field kit.

Following the receipt of analytical results, a detailed report was prepared, outlining the findings of the assessment with recommendations for further action provided.
